General Summary: Anew seeks a dedicated forest industry professional to manage forest carbon field audits.  The successful candidate will have the unique mix of forest field skills and educational background necessary to oversee forest carbon project fieldwork.  Day-to-day responsibilities will cover planning and executing field audits, maintaining inventory methodologies and datasets, overseeing boundary line checks and the quality assessment of carbon inventories throughout the US and Canada. Ideal candidates will be comfortable spending most of their time traveling and, in the field, but will enjoy occasional office work to assist the development of forest carbon projects.  This is an excellent opportunity for an early or mid-level professional seeking a dynamic position in the center of the forest carbon market.


Primary Responsibilities and Competencies*:

  • Travel when necessary to project sites and/or conferences
  • Oversee and conduct field audits
  • Lead training new inventory crews
  • Create plot data cards and Arcgis field maps, in both digital format and print format as needed.
  • Organize day to day field strategies for efficient use of field time
  • Ensure compliance with field safety protocols
  • Transport field members as needed via truck, ATV, UTV, and/or snowmobile
  • Conduct check cruises
  • Provide feedback to inventory contractors
  • Prepare written project documents for verifiers, management, and stakeholders
  • Update and maintain forest carbon inventory methodologies consistent with existing standard

Required Education, Experience and Certification:

  • At least 1-year of experience in a forestry-related occupation
  • Bachelors in forestry or forest sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in forest management plans and/or harvest plan design
  • Knowledge of forest inventory methodology design and implementation
  • Understand the concept of growth and yield modeling and forecasting
  • Experience in ArcGIS mapping and analysis
  • Knowledge of regional forestry safety rules and standards
  • Knowledge of database management and manipulation is preferred
  • Experience cleaning and troubleshooting data
  • Experience in forest mensuration
  • Experience leading groups of people in a wilderness setting, and through complex logistics
  • Experience in field work, must be able to navigate uneasy terrain, steep slopes, and heavy bushwhacking over an extended period of time.
  • Ability to apply multiple types of navigation: GPS, Map and Compass Navigation
  • Basic dendrology and understanding of various forest ecosystems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Expertise in project management and demonstrated ability to coordinate teams
  • Strong interest in climate change and environmental issues


Preferred Education, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficient in forest mensuration
  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry or forest sciences with 5 years of experience
  • Team building, critical thinking and strong communication skills
  • Wilderness First Responder Certified
  • Ability to work independently and travel, with travel expected throughout the year in various regions and terrains.
  • Ability to meet targets and deadlines with occasional extended work periods and weekend work.
  • Valid Driver’s license applicable to the US
  • Strong interest in climate change and environmental issues


  • Traversing various terrains in a variety of regions and climates
  • Driving an ATV, UTV, and snowmobile.
  • Driving in all weather conditions and off-road terrain.
