Advancing Carbon Market Awareness at the Banff Mountain Film Festival
Anew Climate was a proud sponsor of the Environmental Award presented at the Banff Mountain Film Festival Oct. 31-Nov. 3. Congratulations to the Environmental Award winner, The Giants, a documentary focused on forest conservation. As an environmental practitioner myself, it was a great honor to present this award to a project that closely aligns with Anew’s dedication to supporting natural climate solutions.
While the award ceremony was a highlight of the Film Festival, we also staffed a booth at the event’s Marketplace, and I joined a panel discussion titled, “Where Did it Come From, Where is it Going? – The Lifecycle of Your Outdoor Gear” panel alongside Arc’teryx, Rab, and others.
The well attended Marketplace gave us an opportunity to have additional colleagues from our Calgary office participate in the festival and share their knowledge with attendees about carbon markets. We found this to be a strong platform where we could clear up misperceptions about the market-based mechanisms to combat climate change and further explain the extensive work that goes into generating a credit to an audience of professionals who came from outdoor gear, apparel, education, or conservation industries.
Our team also experienced a few unexpected benefits. It gave us a chance to step away from our usual routines, collaborate outside the traditional office environment, work together in a new setting, and connect over shared values around conservation and sustainability. Our sponsorship of the Banff Film Festival demonstrates our values and indirectly invests in our development—not just as professionals, but as individuals passionate about making a difference. This experience strengthened our camaraderie and reinforced our pride of working for a company that actively contributes to impactful causes.
A special thanks to Sydney Flowerday, Lewis Robertson, Lucy Huang, Breanne Lewis and Thana Boonlert for their exceptional coordination and organization of Anew Climate’s presence at the Banff Mountain Film Festival. Their meticulous planning and dedication ensured a seamless experience for the team and maximized engagement with the festival audience. Their efforts were instrumental in showcasing Anew’s expertise and furthering our mission to advance carbon market solutions.
Participating at a film festival was a first-of-its-kind sponsorship for Anew, and our experience was so rewarding that we hope to be there again in 2025.
